The MP5 is a submachine gun in Population: One. It does 22 damage a bullet, the most of the SMGs, and holds 21 rounds at one star and 33 at five.
What the stars change on the MP5
A better MP5 doesn't hit harder. Every star does 22 damage a bullet, 33 on a headshot.
What a star buys is the magazine: 21 rounds at one star, 33 at five.
Every star also takes a little recoil off, so a five-star MP5 stays on target longer.
A star changes nothing else: not the reload, not the range or the falloff, not the aim down the sights.
How the MP5 fires
Hold the trigger and it fires 13 rounds a second until the magazine is empty: 1.6 s of fire at one star, 2.5 s at five.
Reloading is done by hand: the magazine to the well, then the rack. Nothing in the game times a reload.
Against a built wall every hit counts 1.5 times its damage.
Playing the MP5
Full damage reaches 18 m, second among the SMGs after the UMP.
Shots to down with the MP5
A player has 100 health and up to 100 shield. On health alone the MP5 downs in 5 body shots or 4 headshots. Through a full shield it takes 10 body shots in about 0.7 s or 7 headshots in about 0.5 s, if everything lands.
Where the MP5 stops hitting hard
Full damage out to 18 m. Past that a bullet does 16 damage and falls to 8 over the next 20 m, then stays at 8 out to the MP5's 200 m range.
A bullet travels at 750 m/s, so a target moving sideways at distance has to be led.
MP5 or Silenced MP9, P90, UMP and Uzis
The Silenced MP9 does 21 damage a bullet, 12 bullets a second. The P90 does 20 damage a bullet, 15 bullets a second. The UMP does 19 damage a bullet, 14 bullets a second. The Uzis do 14 damage a bullet, 13 bullets a second.
