The Matadors are a pair of sawn-off shotguns in Population: One, carried one in each hand. Each shell is 4 pellets.
What the stars change on the Matadors
Damage grows with the stars: 20 damage a shell at one star, 36 at five, head or body.
The magazine holds 8 shells at every star.
A star changes nothing else: not the reload, not the range or the falloff, not the aim down the sights.
How the Matadors fire
One shell per pull of the trigger. A pull within 125 ms of the last shell does nothing, so the Matadors fire at most 8 shells a second; under that, the player's trigger finger sets the pace.
Reloading is a snap of the wrist, one gun at a time. Nothing in the game times a reload.
A shell is 4 pellets of 5; the 20 is every one of them landing.
They are carried as a pair, one in each hand.
Playing the Matadors
They are the only shotgun whose damage grows with the stars, from 20 damage a shell at one star. They have the shortest range of any gun: full damage ends at 4 m and the pellets stop at 24 m.
Shots to down with the Matadors
A player has 100 health and up to 100 shield. On health alone the Matadors down in 5 shells. Through a full shield it takes 10 shells, if everything lands.
At five stars: 3 shells on health alone, 6 shells through a full shield.
Where the Matadors stop hitting hard
Full damage out to 4 m. Past that a shell does 18 damage and falls to 12 over the next 20 m, then stays at 12 out to the Matadors' 24 m range.
A pellet travels at 400 m/s, so a target moving sideways at distance has to be led.
Matadors or DT11 and M1014
The DT11 does 96 damage a shell, up to 5 shells a second. The M1014 does 77 damage a shell, 3 shells a second.
