The AWP is a bolt-action sniper rifle in Population: One. It does 70 damage to the body and 117 on a headshot at one star, and 104 to the body at five.

What the stars change on the AWP

Damage grows with the stars: 70 damage a bullet at one star, 104 at five, and 117 to 180 on a headshot.

The magazine holds 3 rounds at every star.

A star changes nothing else: not the reload, not the range or the falloff, not the aim down the sights.

How the AWP fires

Bolt action: after each shot the bolt is worked by hand before the next, so the rate of fire is the player's.

Reloading is done by hand: the magazine to the well, then the bolt. The bolt can be worked from 170 ms after a shot; nothing in the game times the rest.

It slows the player down: 20% slower on their feet while holding it.

Playing the AWP

A headshot downs a player with no shield at every star. Full damage reaches 250 m, further than any other rifle. The bolt is worked by hand after every shot, and the AWP slows down the player carrying it.

Shots to down with the AWP

A player has 100 health and up to 100 shield. On health alone the AWP downs in 2 body shots or 1 headshot. Through a full shield it takes 3 body shots or 2 headshots, if everything lands.

At five stars: 1 body shot or 1 headshot on health alone, 2 body shots or 2 headshots through a full shield.

One headshot downs a player with no shield at any star.

From 5 stars up, one bullet anywhere downs a player with no shield.

Where the AWP stops hitting hard

Full damage out to 250 m. Past that a bullet does 63 damage and falls to 60 over the next 150 m, then stays at 60 out to the AWP's 800 m range.

A bullet travels at 620 m/s, so a target moving sideways at distance has to be led.

AWP or Sako 85 and SPR

The Sako 85 does 60 damage a bullet, bolt action. The SPR does 65 damage a bullet, up to 3 bullets a second.
